I.I.S. “ENRICO FERMI” is a technical high school in Sarno in the district of Salerno in southern Italy near Naples.
The school is directed by the headmaster dr. ANTONIO DI RISO and it hosts about 1000 students aged 14/19, 120 teachers and 35 among technical and administrative personnel. Our students are mainly italian. However, the number of youngsters coming from different countries, mainly east Europe, north Africa and south east Asia, and asking to join our family of pupils, is continuously increasing. The families of our students are maily working class families with a low cultural background. There are a lot of migrants who live with only one parent because the other still lives in their country of origin. There are also a lot of students with special needs, because of poor social and cultural background.
In our school there are 24 disabled students and 30 of our students have special educational needs. We have a high percentage of early school leaving because our students are not motivated enough. Our teaching methods are based on strategies trying to motivate and giving them the right tools to become competitive for the job demand. There is a low percentage of students with different religion such as muslims. There are five different courses of studies: chemistry, electronics, information technology, marketing and tourism.
I.I.S. “ENRICO FERMI” is a technical high/secondary school in Sarno in the district of Salerno in southern Italy near Naples. The students follow five distinct 5-year-long learning paths, based, respectively, on chemistry, electronics, information technology, marketing and tourism. In our school we have smart boards in every classroom and our teaching is based on the use of ICT. There are two campus, a main and a satellite one.
There are four languages studied at our school: english, french, spanish and german.
Italian students have a national test called “INVALSI” which is a national test with the aim of testing their maths and italian language skills, our students got low marks at the last test. The results related to their final exams are good because they get good marks at subjects connected to their technical sectors. Our students are involved in "YOUNG APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMM” in order to prepare them for the job demand.
