Institut Antoni Cumella a secondary school with students from 12 to 18 years old. It is located in Granollers, a city 25km away from the city of Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain). It is the capital of a region called Vallès Oriental. Currently the high school counts 530 students and 60 teachers.
Our students are varied and they have different needs. Our school works hard to give response to those needs with different methodologies and projects to keep their motivation. Our students’ parent shave limited salaries but they care about their children’s education because they want to give them the chance to study at the high school and university. Some families are local but there are also a great amount of families from Morocco and South America.
Although it was not a priority before, nowadays, all the teachers are paying particular attention to contests and we are motivating students to participate. This course, our students are participating in a language contest, called Fonix.
Our teachers are in their 30s and 40s they are working in this school for 2 or 3 years but they have been working in different schools before. All of them have the MA in pedagogical preparation for education and the majority of them have from B2 to C2 level of English and they are specialized in AICLE.
Our school has many projects: the aim of the Multilingual Project is to foster different languages in order to be competent in all the communicative skills, there fore our students study Catalan, Spanish, English and French, German and we have just started with Chinese. More over, the group of students who will be involved in Erasmus+ attend Science, Biology, P.E, Maths and Art lessons in English. Another project that we are dealing with is the Handwork Project. This project is focused on students who lacked motivation. They work on content in a practical way and they also do internship in different companies in the city. We also have a project called Prejudices. Our students learn to create a complete short film, from the script to the filming about prejudices and how society deals with them.
