Kėdainiai Vocational Training Centre is registered as a budgetary public institution and was established in 2001 as the biggest vocational institution in the Kėdainiai region, Lithuania. Since September 1st 2012, there are three departments in Kėdainiai VTC: Gymnasium Department, Industry and Services departments, Transport and Bussiness department.
The main activity of Kedainiai VTC is vocational education and training of young people, but adult (or unemployed) training and re-training is provided in the Centre as well. At present there are 705 students whose age varies from 15 to 24. The teaching staff consists of 62 persons, which are profession teachers and general subject teachers. The staff of Kedainiai VTC is competent in vocational training, management and IT.
Currently, students study according to 22 vocational training programmes: vocational training, non-formal education and vocational practice programmes are implemented. Since 2014 Kedainiai VTC offers various courses for adults such as Computer Literacy, The English Language, Art and Design etc. The school also offers non-formal courses for pupils from Kėdainiai town. In December 2010, after the accreditation procedure, Kedainiai VTC was given the status of gymnasium. Students of 1st and 2nd gymnasium classes study according to the second part of the basic education program. During Technology lessons they are introduced to a variety of different professions. Students are offered to learn basics of sewing, hairdressing, building (construction), metal processing, food preparation, trade and logistic.
Kedainiai VTC acts in socially and economically negative place – in a suburb and a village. Industry and Services Department is located in the suburb, Transport and Business Department - in the rural area. Both departments are in disadvantage area, where is not good demographic, economic and social situation, live a large number of social exclusion and social risk families. Student families’ living standard is very low; most of the students are from socially supported and dissonant families. Such students have many psychological problems; they often are not motivated to seek better results and higher education. The students lack learning motivation and are disadvantaged, with different social and cultural backgrounds (there is a multicultural community in Kedainiai), learners with special needs and children with misbehavior problems. According Kedainiai VET social passport data, about 35% of the students belong to families of social exclusion or risk families. The average of drop out students’ is quite high; more than 45% of pupils drop out of the educational system and does not acquire general/professional qualifications.
Kedainiai VTC has the Management System standard ISO 9001:2008 / LST EN ISO 9001:2008. Kedainiai VETC is eager to improve the quality of training services and train the specialists who satisfy the needs of labor market, to create a learning environment that stimulates limited capacity or lack motivation students to reach profession qualification.
